In the meantime, there are nine competitions worldwide: In England, Germany, Italy, Austria, Japan, Brazil and two in the USA. All competitions are stand-alone events and take place once a year. Teams can decide on how many competitions they want to participate in.
Traditionally, the Rennteam attends the three European competitions in England, Germany and Italy. In May 2008, we additionally started with the 11-2B in the Formula SAE in Michigan, USA, which is the biggest and oldest competition. At the end of 2008, the Rennteam made the long trip to Australia to take part in the Formula SAE Australasia with the 11-3. Both overseas competitions were also announced as world-cup competitions (FISITA Worldcup). With a 2nd and a 1st place overall win, we were very pleased with our results.
Since 2009, there is a fourth competition in Europe: The Formula Student Austria. Because of the increasing number of teams in the past years, this was overdue. Now more teams have the opportunity to start at a competition.
In 2010, the Formula Student Electric will take place for the very first time, parallel to the Formula Student Germany. The rules are very similar to those of the original Formula Student, but the cars must be powered by an electric engine. Some alumni of the Rennteam teamed up with new faces and founded the Greenteam Uni Stuttgart in order to take part at this groundbreaking event.
