Rules

The construction of a Formula Student race car is based on several regulations. The core is a 4-stroke Otto engine with a maximum of 610 cc displacement and a 20 mm air restrictor. Additionally, the wheelbase must not be less than 1525 mm. Apart from that, the rules permit a lot of freedom to encourage students' creativity and allow innovations. There is no minimum weight and you are allowed to chose the type of drive train. Even the application of newest materials is possible. Active chassis and electronic driver assistance programs such as traction control can be utilized.

Excerpt from the rules

The vehicles normally weigh between 150 and 300 kg. With a power of up to 90 hp, it's possible to reach a power to weight ratio of modern race cars. All this allows outrageous driving performances; accelerating 0-100 km/h is done in less than 4 seconds.
